Monthly ‘Fun’ Competitions

These will continue to be run on the first Monday of each month. A £2 entry fee applies with the winner(s) receiving a bottle of wine. Scores from the Fun competitions will not count for handicapping, Order of Merit or Eclectic purposes.

List of Fun Games

Coloured Balls All Round (04/04/22)

Regular Stableford.

A draw for partners will take place prior to the first tee time . If there's an odd number we will introduce a mystery player.

Everyone has a coloured ball in addition to their normal white one.

Each person can choose 5 holes on which to use the coloured ball. On those holes the points will be doubled.

If the coloured ball is lost or the player blobs a hole on which the coloured ball is being used then the ball is taken out of play for the remainder of the round (i.e. they only get to use a white ball for single points).

Borrow £2.00 for Jerry.

Las Vegas Two Clubs and a Putter (last played 09/05/22)

Format:  Pairs. Full handicap for each player. Both scores to count on each hole.

Each player can only have two clubs (of their own choice) and a putter.

Scoring:  Stableford.

Twist:

a. Before tee off, every player will randomly draw a number between 1-18 (excluding no.s  3 and 15). The number relates to a hole and, on that hole, the player will score triple points;

b. Each player will have a different number;

c. Once all the players have drawn their numbers, the remaining numbers (i.e the numbers not drawn) will  become double points scoring opportunities for everyone. This will include holes 3 and 15.

d. If there are an odd number of players, the mystery partner will come into play.

Two clubs and a putter with a twist (04/07/22)

Rules

Handicaps will be 50% of the combined total for each pair

This should be written on the team card and then the card should be passed to the other team in the fourball.

Cards should marked as follows
- Column A will show the team score for each hole
- Column B will show the points given for each hole
- Column C will show any penalty points applied as shown below. These penalty points should be taken away from the final Stapleford score.

Penalty points will be applied as follows, one point for:
- going in a bunker
- going in a pond
- going out of bounds
- losing a ball
- ball unplayable necessitating a drop

Note: four of the above will have penalty points applied according to the rules of golf. These should be subtracted as normal from the players handicap allowance for the given whole.

1-2-3 Best Ball (08/08/22)

"1-2-3 Best Ball" is the name of a golf tournament format for 3-person teams in which a different number of team members' scores are counted on each hole:
2. On the first hole, the one best score among the four teammates is the team score;
3. On the second hole, the two best scores are combined for the team score;
4. On the third hole, the three best scores are combined for the team score.
One-two-three. On the fourth hole, that rotation starts over and continues through the round. Stableford scoring

Pink ball

Each team of two starts with a pink ball

As the round progresses, the pink ball is rotated on each hole

The Stapleford score registered by the pink ball player will be doubled on each hole

Bongo

Scoring

Each player keeps their own score. Stableford scores should be marked on the card in the normal way.

In addition, two columns should be used, one for plus points and one for minus points….

Plus points are gained for: first player to reach the green, player closest to the hole, and first player to putt out.

Minus points are gained by losing balls in the water, going in bunkers, on grassy knolls, lost balls, and unplayable balls.

Plus and Minus points should be logged even where a player runs out of shots on a given hole.

TEXAS SCRAMBLE RULES

1. Each team to consist of three or four players

2. Handicap Allowance: Team of four = 1/10th of combined handicaps, Team of three = 1/8th of combined handicaps.

3. All players tee off on all holes. A minimum of 3 tee shots per player must be used (minimum of 4 tee shots for teams of three).

4. Nominated Team Captain then selects the drive to be used and marks the position with a tee peg (not nearer the hole). The other players then retrieve their balls.

5. All players then play within (12 inches) of the tee peg, not nearer the hole, in any order. A ball may be placed on the fairway, but must be dropped from any other area, including hazards.

6. The above method of play is followed until the green is reached.

7. On the green the same method applies. The ball chosen is marked and all players putt from that spot in any order.

8. Each player marks the ball after putting. Play continues from each position until the ball is holed.

9. The gross score for each hole should be marked on the score card against the player whose tee shot was used, e.g. A, B, C or D.

Triple Lockdown
Format:  Single or Pairs. Full handicap for each player.
Scoring:  Stableford
Twist:

  1.  In advance of play each player will choose, at random, a number between 1-18 (excluding 3 and 15);

  2. The number chosen will relate to a hole on the course and for this hole the stableford score will count triple for that individual;

  3. All players will choose a different number (i.e. once a number has been chosen it is removed from subsequent selection);

  4. The numbers/holes remaining after all players have chosen a number will then count as double for all players (including numbers 3 and 15).

For example, 12 players are competing.  Between them they individually choose numbers 1,2,5,6,8,9,10,11, 12,13,17,18.  For the number they have chosen their individual score counts treble on the corresponding hole.  For the six numbers/holes that weren’t choseni.e. 3,4,7,14,15,16, the score will count double for all players on the corresponding holes.

  2. Pairs can choose which order they want to play it (i.e. who plays odds, who plays evens);

  3. Scores with the coloured ball will count double;

  4. All scores with the (regular) white ball count single;

  5. If the coloured ball is lost, it cannot be replaced and the team will continue with two white balls for single points only;

  6. If a coloured ball goes in a bunker then the score for that hole (and that hole only) will count as single points only.
